Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads for technical B2B companies

Professional B2B marketing with Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads for your lead generation

Paid reach you can trace back to the individual inquiry.

Paid lead generation gets you in front of your ideal customers faster than any other channel. Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads are also the channels you get a bill for every month. That is why we only switch them on once every inquiry gets a source with you.

Professional B2B marketing for software companies, industry, and IT service providers

02 / Why ads run into nothing

Why do Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads often bring no inquiries for technical B2B companies?

Why Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads in B2B often deliver only clicks instead of inquiries

We see three patterns again and again in technical companies where paid lead generation is already running. All three have the same origin. The ads were started before the measurement, and today nobody can prove which inquiry came from which euro.

01

You pay for clicks and don’t see the inquiries behind them

Missing measurement chain

The ad account reports clicks, impressions, and a price per click. Your sales team reports appointments. There is no link between the two numbers, so every budget discussion ends as a matter of opinion instead of a matter of arithmetic.

02

Your ad leads to a page with no next step

Missing next step

The most expensive moment of an ad is the second after the click. If your homepage introduces the company there instead of picking up the inquiry, you paid for a visit that leaves no trace.

03

Your offering needs explanation that doesn’t fit in an ad

Missing occasion

Technology that requires explanation does not sell through an ad with the word "contact" underneath it. Someone seeing you for the first time needs a reason that benefits them right away, and only afterwards an appointment.

03 / The right sequence

When should a B2B company start with paid ads?

Paid lead generation only starts after clean conversion tracking

We deliberately leave out paid lead generation before clean conversion tracking is in place. Without the measurement chain, you won’t know at the end of the month which inquiry came from which budget, and that single number decides whether you keep investing or switch off.

  • The ads were started before the measurement, and today nobody can prove which inquiry came from which euro.

We see for every inquiry which channel it came from.

  • The ad account reports clicks, impressions, and a price per click. Your sales team reports appointments.

We know which search term brought us an appointment.

  • You keep ads running without being able to prove which of them deliver anything.

We can see in the account which ad we can switch off.

  • You judge Google and LinkedIn by different numbers.

We compare our channels using the same number.

  • There is no link between the two numbers, so every budget discussion ends as a matter of opinion instead of a matter of arithmetic.

We justify our budget with a report instead of a feeling.

  • No access to your own ad accounts

Our ad accounts run under our own name and belong to us.

04 / Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads

Google Ads or ChatGPT Ads: what should a technical B2B company start with?

Why you start with Google Ads and add ChatGPT, LinkedIn, and Meta Ads afterwards

On Google, someone is actively searching for a solution to a problem they already have. That demand exists and is currently being captured by others. ChatGPT Ads come second, because more and more decision-makers start their search for a provider there. Only after that do we turn to LinkedIn and, if needed, to Meta, to the people who aren’t searching for your topic yet.

CHANNEL 01

Google Ads

You show up exactly where your customers are already searching.

Task

Capture existing demand. We bid on the terms your ideal customers use to describe their problem, not the ones you use to describe your technology.

When it starts

As soon as your landing page is ready and every inquiry arrives in the ad account as a result.

What you see

Per search term, the number of inquiries and what an inquiry cost you.

CHANNEL 02

ChatGPT Ads

You show up in the answer, not just in the list of results.

Task

Ads right where your ideal customers now begin their search for a provider: in the answers of ChatGPT. We bid on the questions your customers ask, not the terms you use to describe your technology.

When it starts

As soon as the Google campaign is running and the measurement setup attributes every inquiry to a source.

What you see

Which questions bring inquiries and what an inquiry from AI search cost you.

CHANNEL 03

LinkedIn Ads

You reach exactly the roles from your profiles.

Task

The ads run on the same audience your personal profiles already reach organically. Same companies, same roles, same language.

When it starts

As soon as your profiles deliver content an ad can build on.

What you see

Which roles react and how often a contact had to see you before they got in touch.

CHANNEL 04

Reporting per channel

You get a source per inquiry every month.

Task

All channels are evaluated separately and merged into one document you can pass on to your management unchanged.

When it starts

With the first full month in which ads are running.

What you see

Inquiries per channel, cost per inquiry, and a suggestion for where the budget goes next month.

05 / Five-phase process

How long does it take until the first ad goes live?

How the build-out of your Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads proceeds step by step

The same five phases as across the whole process, broken down for paid lead generation. After phase one you know which number we measure ourselves by, and you approve every further phase before it starts.

P01 . WEEK 1

You set the target value

Ideal customer profile, search terms, and the amount an inquiry is worth to you.

P02 . WEEK 2

You see the account structure

Campaigns, ad groups, and the page every click lands on.

P03 . FROM WEEK 3

Measurement and landing page take shape

Conversion tracking, form goals, and the page behind the ad.

P04 . FROM WEEK 4

Google goes live, then LinkedIn

First the existing demand, then the audience from your profiles.

P05 . ONGOING

You get the reporting

Per channel the inquiries with source and the suggestion for next month.

06 / Your scope of service

Who writes your ad copy and who maintains the search terms?

What you get from LILOX with Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads

Desk with notes, a pen, and a screen showing an open report.

Search campaigns on Google

We bid on the terms your ideal customers use to describe their problem, not the ones you use to describe your technology.

  • Terms researched from your sales conversations
  • A list of terms you do not pay for
  • Every ad goes live only after your approval

ChatGPT Ads on the questions your audience asks

The ads appear in the answers of ChatGPT, right at the questions your ideal customers use to begin their search for a provider.

  • We bid on questions, not search terms
  • The same landing page and the same measurement as on Google
  • The budget stays on your own account

Landing page behind every ad

Every campaign gets a page that picks up exactly what the ad promised.

  • A dedicated page per campaign
  • It belongs to your website and stays yours
  • A next step instead of a self-introduction

Visibility check as an entry-point offer

The ad carries no contact form, but an offer that delivers value even without purchase intent.

  • 30 minutes with findings as a document
  • Comparison with two named competitors
  • A reason to click, even without a need

Measurement of every single inquiry

Without this piece, no ad starts with us, because you would otherwise have nothing to prove.

  • Conversion tracking and form goals
  • Connection to your CRM
  • Source per inquiry down to the search term

Monthly reporting

Once a month you get a document you can pass on unchanged.

  • Inquiries per channel
  • Cost per inquiry
  • Suggestion for next month’s budget

All six components run on your own accounts. If you end the collaboration, the accounts, data, and history stay with you.

07 / Verifiable results

What results has LILOX already achieved in B2B marketing?

Results from three engagements you can ask about in the initial call

These three results come from engagements where the whole system was running: website, channels, and measurement together. We don’t attribute them to a single channel, because that would not reflect the truth.

Three results with industry and timeframe

In conversation we explain, case by case, which piece worked when.

ENGAGEMENT 01

+12 qualified initial calls per month

Software company, built up over six months. Website as the core module, with the channels then connected to it.

ENGAGEMENT 02

€480k pipeline in five months

Hardware manufacturer, 14 meetings at CIO level. Outreach ran by role, not by company size.

ENGAGEMENT 03

17% reply rate instead of around 10%

IT service provider, nine months, five new customers. Same audience, a different conversation trigger.

08 / Suitable companies

For which companies do Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads pay off in B2B?

For which B2B companies Google Ads, ChatGPT Ads, and co. pay off

Good fit

You have few customers with a high order value

If a single won order carries a year’s ad budget, clicks are allowed to be expensive. All that matters then is whether the right companies end up inquiring.

  • An offering that needs explanation, with a clear ideal customer profile
  • Order sizes in the five-figure range or above
  • A website that turns visits into inquiries
  • Someone on your team responds to inquiries promptly
Less suitable

You have no measurement yet and need revenue immediately

If your website does not yet turn visits into inquiries, ads only amplify a problem you already have. In that case, we start with the website.

  • No conversion tracking and no landing page in place
  • Transactional mass-market business with small order values
  • Budget that needs a closed deal after four weeks
  • No access to your own ad accounts

The measurement chain first, then the budget. A few well-matched inquiries are worth more to you than sheer volume.

09 / All components at a glance

What services does LILOX offer besides paid lead generation?

Digital advertising is one component in your marketing system

You can book each component individually. Together they form a system in which every inquiry gets a source. The website is the foundation, because all other channels lead to it. What you start with is your decision after the visibility check.

The service portfolio

Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads bring speed, four more components dock on

The website is the foundation. Everything else docks onto it and feeds into the same measurement.

Ads

Paid reach on Google and in ChatGPT, only started once the measurement chain runs cleanly. That way you see which inquiry came from which budget.

10 / Pricing and risk

Is there a minimum term on your ads?

What managing your Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads with LILOX costs

Getting started costs you nothing. Ongoing operations run on a monthly flat fee that individually reflects the desired scope of service and can be cancelled monthly. Working together is possible from €2,900 a month. You can cancel monthly and keep the accounts, data, and reports. That way you carry no risk beyond the next month.

In 30 minutes we discuss your starting position and you see whether your company shows up in Google AI and ChatGPT, compared with two competitors you name. You get the findings as a document.

STEP 02

Ongoing operations from €2,900 a month

A monthly flat fee that individually reflects the desired scope of service and can be cancelled monthly: managing the campaigns, maintaining the terms, adjusting the ads, and the monthly reporting per channel. The ad budget stays on your own accounts.

The comparison we consider meaningful is a dedicated sales hire. That costs you €60,000 to €80,000 a year, plus onboarding, management, and tools. Paid reach with clean measurement costs you a fraction of that, and you can switch it off at the end of the month.

12 / Who we are

Who at LILOX works on our project?

The two founders of LILOX, from marketing and engineering

LILOX is owner-led and deliberately works with only a few companies at a time. Your point of contact stays the same from the first analysis through into ongoing operations.

Portrait of Nadine Fraiss, co-founder of LILOX.
Nadine Fraiss . Marketing

15 years of digital marketing, several of them at CMO level.

Head of Marketing between traditional Mittelstand, startup, and scale-up. Nadine has sat on both sides: as the client who had to justify agency budgets, and as the person responsible for delivering pipeline by the end of the quarter.

With you, she leads positioning, website, and campaigns and stays your point of contact through ongoing operations.

  • Positioning and messaging for offerings that need explanation
  • Website as the core module, from structure to conversion path
  • LinkedIn, email, and ads working together instead of side by side

"Marketing is measured on pipeline today."

Portrait of Christoph Fraiss, co-founder of LILOX.
Christoph Fraiss . Engineering

Engineer and industrial engineer, Head of Engineering and managing director in production.

Christoph is a mechanical engineer, industrial engineer (MSc) and holds an international MBA from the Carlson School of Management and WU Vienna. 15 years of experience in managing large-scale projects, engineering high-performance plants and as a production and company manager, including at Thermo Fisher, Novartis and Aenova. He knows the moment an offer fails on price, and the moment it fails on a missing explanation.

With you, he translates between technology and market. That way the project understands your product from the first conversation.

  • Technical translation from the datasheet to customer benefit
  • The investment decision-maker’s view of your offering
  • Process understanding from production, costing, and sales

"I know how these companies run on the inside."

From experience

What sets B2B marketing for technical companies apart from other marketing

01

Your offering that needs explanation cannot take simplification

An offering that needs explanation loses the moment it gets simplified. Anyone who doesn’t understand your technology cuts exactly the sentences that bring in the order.

02

Weeks to months lie between first contact and inquiry

Weeks to months lie between first seeing you and the inquiry. A single campaign fizzles out, a lasting presence doesn’t.

03

Several roles decide on your order together

Management, marketing, sales, and IT sit at the same table and ask different questions. Your page has to answer all four.

04

Few customers with high order value instead of mass reach

At your order sizes, what counts is not the number of contacts, but whether the right ten companies know you when they invest.

Nadine and her team were a stroke of luck for us. They helped us position our brand and product portfolio without forcing us to completely rethink our original vision or resources — they polished our rough diamond, so to speak. Thanks to a lead-generation strategy that actually fit our budget, we've been able to market our business model to exactly the right audience. A clear recommendation for SMEs like us.

14 / Frequently asked questions

What questions do companies ask before starting their ads?

What questions technical companies ask about Google Ads B2B and paid lead generation

Your question isn’t here?

Send us a line. You’ll get an answer from one of the two founders, not from an inbox.

Ask a question
When should we start with Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads?

As soon as your measurement setup is in place and every inquiry automatically gets a source. Before that, LILOX deliberately does not run paid reach, because at the end of the month you would otherwise not be able to say which inquiry came from which budget. As a rule, that is the case from week four onward.

Why Google first and only LinkedIn afterwards?

On Google, someone is actively searching for a solution they need today. That demand already exists and can be captured immediately. LinkedIn reaches people who are not yet searching for your topic, and therefore needs more touchpoints and more time until the first inquiry.

How do LinkedIn Ads work on the audience of our personal profiles?

The ads run on the same companies and roles that your personal profiles already reach organically. A contact then sees your name more than once, once in a person’s post and once in an ad. That increases the likelihood they react once the need arises.

What do we advertise if nobody fills out a contact form?

The free visibility check. In 30 minutes, a prospect sees whether their own company shows up in Google AI and ChatGPT, compared with two named competitors. That way the click has value even if no purchase is on the table today.

How do we know which inquiry came from which budget?

Every inquiry gets a source on arrival that traces back to the search term or the ad. Once a month you get, per channel, the number of inquiries, the cost per inquiry, and a suggestion for where the budget goes next month.

Who owns the ad accounts and the data?

You do. The Google and LinkedIn accounts run under your name, we work in them with access. If you end the collaboration, the accounts, history, and reports stay with you and another team can keep working on them.

What happens if the ads don’t deliver?

You see it in the monthly report, on the same number we measure ourselves by. Then either we sharpen the approach or the channel gets switched off and the budget goes where it works measurably. You can cancel monthly and keep everything created up to that point.

What is the minimum budget we need for B2B ads?

That gets calculated, not estimated. Three numbers are needed: the cost per click on your search terms, how many clicks it typically takes to produce one inquiry, and how many inquiries your sales team can handle in a month. The budget follows from that, not the other way around. We run the calculation before the start. If the result is a number you can’t afford, we advise against the channel.

Are Google Ads worth it if nobody searches for our product?

They can be, just not through the product name, but through the problem. Anyone selling a machine or a specialist software that needs explaining rarely finds searches for their own product on Google, but very much for the situation that comes before it. Before the start, we check whether such searches exist in sufficient numbers. If they don’t, LinkedIn is the right channel, because it targets by role and company.

Should we shift budget from Google Ads into AI visibility?

Don’t shift it, build the two in sequence. Ads work immediately and stop working immediately once you switch them off. Visibility in Google AI and ChatGPT builds up over months and then holds for a while. Running ads alone means renting reach. Working on visibility alone means waiting a long time. As a rule, the paid channel funds the time the other one needs.

How long does it take before Google Ads bring the first inquiries?

The first clicks come the same day, usable numbers after four to six weeks. Before that, there isn’t enough volume to tell coincidence from pattern. During that period, search terms that deliver nothing are weeded out continuously. LinkedIn takes longer, because nobody is actively searching there. Deciding on a campaign after two weeks means deciding on too little data.

Do we need a dedicated landing page for ads, or is the homepage enough?

A dedicated landing page, as soon as it goes beyond a test run. The homepage has to do everything at once and therefore never answers a single search query completely. A landing page picks up the wording of the ad, shows one piece of evidence and one next step, and leaves everything else out. It is also the only clean way to measure which ad led to which inquiry.

The next step

How to start your paid lead generation with LILOX

In the visibility check we test whether and how your company shows up in Google AI and ChatGPT, and compare the result with two competitors you name. Afterwards we tell you openly whether ads are the sensible next step for you.
