Improve your company’s visibility in AI answer engines

So ChatGPT says your name when your customers ask it for solutions there.

LILOX is a GEO agency for technical B2B companies in the DACH region and improves the visibility of your brand in AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Google AI. The three services are a visibility check with twelve real queries, a monthly measurement in the exact same wording, and the work on the sources these systems cite from. The goal is inquiries from your ideal customers who make their choice today in an AI answer. The starting point is a check that costs you nothing.

AI visibility for software companies, manufacturing industry, and IT service providers

01 / Terms in plain language

What do GEO, AEO, and LLMO mean?

Generative Engine Optimization, Answer Engine Optimization, and LLMO, each explained in one sentence

Three terms describe the same task from three angles. If you can tell them apart, you can read and judge an offer instead of taking it on faith.

GEO

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Generative Engine Optimization, GEO for short, is the work of getting generative answer engines such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Google AI to cite a company as a source when they condense several sources into one answer. GEO is not measured by a position in a results list, but by how often a page gets cited in answers and in which questions that happens. GEO does not replace SEO: whoever drops out of the index also drops out of the sources. That is why we treat B2B SEO and AI visibility as one process, not as two projects.

AEO

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)

Answer Engine Optimization, AEO for short, is the work of getting a page to deliver the direct answer to a question that has been asked, for example in a search engine’s featured snippet or in an assistant’s answer box. For that, the answer sits at the top of the page and not after three paragraphs of run-up.

LLMO

LLMO, Large Language Model Optimization

LLMO stands for Large Language Model Optimization and means working on the picture a language model has stored of a company in its own training knowledge. GEO and AEO act on the research at the moment of the question, LLMO acts on the description a model can retrieve even without research.

02 / The direct comparison

What is the difference between SEO, GEO, and AEO?

SEO, GEO, and AEO in direct comparison

SEO aims at a position in the results list, GEO at being cited in a condensed answer, AEO at the answer itself. The technical groundwork is the same for all three. The goal is not.

03 / Starting point in AI answers

How does a provider get into ChatGPT’s answer?

How ChatGPT, Copilot, and other AI systems decide which providers to recommend

Anyone searching for a provider today no longer gets a list of results, but three to five names in a paragraph. Anyone missing from it doesn’t get the inquiry. The decision is made based on sources these systems can read and cite. That is exactly what your B2B marketing has to work on if it’s meant to generate leads.

ANSWER TO A CUSTOMER QUESTIONWhich providers should we approach? These two providers are frequently mentioned.SOURCES NAMEDYour companyNOT MENTIONEDCompetitor AMENTIONEDCompetitor BMENTIONED
Observation 01

The AI answer replaces Google’s results list

Ten blue links become three names in a block of text. You’re in it or you’re not. There’s no second spot on page one in this form anymore.

Observation 02

Only what answer systems can read gets cited

Answer systems draw on pages that answer a question immediately and back up their claims. A page that only gets to the point after three paragraphs rarely becomes a source.

Observation 03

If you’re missing from the sources, you’re missing from every AI answer

These systems draw from the same sources. If your positioning is missing from articles, profiles, and directories, it’s missing from every answer at once.

04 / The visibility check

How do I find out if ChatGPT recommends my company?

The visibility check with twelve real queries in the leading AI systems

The visibility check

What you get from LILOX’s visibility check

We ask twelve queries the way your customers would ask them, and record who gets named. We present the result to you live and leave you the findings as a document.

12real queries
2named competitors
3prioritized actions

Twelve real queries

The queries come from your market and are phrased the way your customers ask. We record whether you’re named, in what position, and with what claim.

Comparison with two competitors

You name the two competitors yourself. That way you see your gap to companies you know from your own bids, instead of to some arbitrary average.

Technical assessment of citability

We check whether your pages are reachable and usable for answer systems. Structure, answer length, references back to the original page, and crawler access are all part of it.

Three prioritized actions

You get three actions in the order that moves the needle most. You can implement them yourselves, hand them to your agency, or keep working with us.

// You decide freely afterward

05 / Monthly measurement and report

How often should you measure AI visibility?

Monthly measurement of your AI visibility with a report for your leadership team

A one-time measurement is a snapshot. That’s why the same twelve queries keep running every month, always in the same wording. Only the comparison across several months shows you whether your work on the sources is reaching your ideal customers.

06 / Process in five phases

How do you go about becoming visible in AI answers?

How building your AI visibility works step by step

The build runs in five phases. You know before the start what gets built in which week, and you sign off each phase before the next begins. Keep scrolling, the diagram builds itself along with you.

P01 . STRATEGY

Your twelve queries for the measurement are set

WEEK 1

Target customer profile, the twelve queries verbatim, two named competitors, and today’s baseline. From here on, change is measurable.

  • Target customer profile and roles
  • Twelve queries verbatim
  • Baseline and competitive comparison
  • Your sign-off
P02 . ARCHITECTURE

You see the action plan before the first move

WEEK 2

The technical assessment becomes a sequence. You see which page should answer which question and which sources outside your website get added.

  • Technical assessment by page
  • Topic plan with questions verbatim
  • Sequence by impact
  • Your sign-off
P03 . IMPLEMENTATION

Your website becomes a citable source for AI answers

WEEK 3 TO 6

Structure, answer length, questions in the wording of real prompts, and technical access get implemented. In parallel, the first substantiated content takes shape.

  • Structure and answer first
  • Questions in the wording of real prompts
  • llms.txt and open access
  • Your sign-off per text
P04 . GO LIVE

Your content goes live and outside sources follow suit

WEEK 7 TO 9

Go live here means the content gets published and the same positioning shows up outside your website too. Profiles, directories, and articles get added.

  • Content published
  • Profiles and directories maintained
  • Articles after your sign-off
  • First follow-up measurement
P05 . ONGOING OPTIMIZATION

Monthly measurement, report, and handover to you

FROM WEEK 10

The measurement keeps running on a monthly cycle, the report goes to you, and the work list for the next month grows out of the cited sources.

  • Monthly report to pass on
  • Work list from the sources
  • New content as needed
  • Documented handover

07 / AI search optimization for your website

What technical requirements does a website need for AI answers?

What you get from LILOX’s AI search optimization for your website

The work on your website falls into four groups. Every group is verifiable, you don’t have to take our word for it. It’s part of a website project or it continues on your existing site.

Structure and answer formats for AI answers

A page answers one question, and the answer comes first. That way an answer system finds the claim without having to work through three paragraphs of run-up.

  • One question per page, in your customers’ wording
  • Answer within the first 40 to 60 words
  • Headings in a traceable order
  • Question areas from real prompts instead of invented questions

Citable content with substantiated claims

What’s citable is what’s provable. We work out with you which claims you can back up with a number, a timeframe, and a source, and where that evidence comes from.

  • Provable claims instead of generic marketing lines
  • The same positioning in profiles and directories
  • Articles that lead back to your page
  • Sign-off on every text by you

Technical discoverability for the crawlers of answer systems

If you want to be cited, you have to be allowed to be read. We check which access your site blocks today, and deliberately open it up to the crawlers of answer systems.

  • llms.txt in your website’s root directory
  • Access for AI crawlers deliberately opened
  • Clear canonicals pointing to your original page
  • Load time and delivery without hurdles for machines

Monthly measurement and reporting

Every month you see, in the same wording, where you stand. The work list for the next month grows out of the cited sources, instead of a gut feeling.

  • Twelve queries in the exact same wording every time
  • Comparison with two competitors you name
  • A two-page report to pass on
  • List of cited sources as a work list

08 / Sources for AI answers

How do you get into the sources ChatGPT cites from?

How you become a source ChatGPT cites from

01

Provable claims on your own pages

Your website

Claims with a number, a timeframe, and a source get cited, generic marketing lines don’t. We work out with you which claims you can prove and where that evidence comes from. Every text gets signed off by you.

02

The same positioning outside your website

Outside sources

Articles, industry directories, profiles of your people, and coverage in media your customers read. Answer systems check whether several sources say the same thing about you.

03

A wording you keep consistent everywhere

Repetition

When your category, your target audience, and your value are phrased the same way everywhere, a pattern emerges. That exact pattern is what these systems later output as the answer.

09 / The data

How big is the gap between AI research and AI visibility in the DACH region?

Seven figures on AI visibility in the DACH region

The following figures come from the LILOX AI Visibility Report and the numbered sources listed there. Each figure stands as its own sentence with reference value, period, and origin, so it can be cited on its own.

01

94 percent research with ChatGPT or Copilot

Emporix 2026

This refers to B2B buyers, and it refers to product research and purchase preparation, not to closing the purchase. The figure comes from the survey “The Autonomous Commerce Shift 2026” by Emporix. As of July 2026.

02

93 percent of the DACH Mittelstand remain invisible

GEO Study DACH 2026

B2B mid-sized companies in the DACH region do not appear in AI searches, despite good positions on Google. The source is the GEO Study DACH 2026, published via Big Data Insider. As of July 2026.

03

51 percent start with an AI chatbot

G2, 03/2026

They now begin their research more often with an AI chatbot than with a search engine. Surveyed by G2 in March 2026. As of July 2026.

04

14.6 percent is what the best of 16 providers reaches

LILOX monitoring

Our own primary data from 51 buyer questions, put to four AI systems daily: 3,971 evaluated answers across 16 providers in the period from June 2 to July 2, 2026. Even the best provider is therefore missing from 85 percent of the answers. As of July 2026.

05

5.1 times higher conversion from AI search visits

Emporix 2026

Compared with website visitors from classic Google search. The figure comes from the same Emporix survey as the 94 percent in row 01. As of July 2026.

06

58 percent fewer organic clicks

Omnibound 2026

Counted for search queries where Google shows AI Overviews. Based on the AI Overview click analyses 2025/26 via Omnibound. Classic SEO loses reach there. As of July 2026.

07

357 percent growth in AI referral traffic

Omnibound 2026

Measured year over year, from the Omnibound AI Search Statistics and the SearchSignal Benchmark 2026. The new channel grows while the old one shrinks. As of July 2026.

Figures as of July 2026. The full methodology, the prompt set, and the numbered list of sources are in the AI Visibility Report. It is free and runs to 56 pages.

10 / Choosing an agency

How do you recognize a good GEO agency?

How do you recognize a good GEO agency? Seven criteria

The market for GEO agencies is young, and from the outside the offers look alike. The following seven criteria can be checked against any offer without you having to judge the technology behind it.

  1. It measures before it works.

It starts with a baseline, not with a package of measures. Without a baseline, no change can be proven later.

  2. It discloses the wording of the queries.

You see which questions are measured and can change them. Queries the agency keeps to itself cannot be verified.

  3. It names a metric and its definition.

A “visibility score” without a calculation method says nothing. Ask for the formula and for what a value of 1.0 means.

  4. It measures repeatedly in the same wording.

AI answers fluctuate from week to week. A one-time test is a snapshot, not a basis for decisions.

  5. It works on third-party sources too.

Directories, comparison portals, trade media, and communities feed directly into AI answers. Working only on your own website covers half the job.

  6. It says what it cannot guarantee.

Nobody can promise a mention in ChatGPT, because the systems decide for themselves. Promises of placements are a warning sign.

  7. It hands over data, access, and documentation.

The measurement series, the list of sources, and the reports belong to you. Without a handover, you start from zero when you switch.

Five test questions

GEO agency comparison, what to look for in an offer

When you lay several offers side by side, the service descriptions rarely decide, because they resemble each other. What decides are five questions you put to every agency in the same way and whose answers you write down next to each other.

Put these five questions to every agency in the same wording

  • Which queries are measured, and who decides their wording?
  • Which systems are measured, and are they reported separately?
  • How often is the measurement taken, and on which day of the month?
  • Which metric is in the report, how is it defined, and what is a good value?
  • What happens to data, access, and content when the collaboration ends?

We answer these five questions in the initial call, before an offer is written. If you are comparing a GEO agency, a GEO-SEO agency, or a specialized agency for AI visibility, they are the fastest route to a solid comparison.

11 / Who it’s built for

Who benefits from working on AI visibility?

Which B2B companies AI visibility pays off for

This is what it’s built for

Fits offerings that need explaining and have long decision paths

  • Your customers compare several providers before approaching anyone.
  • Your website has substance that no one has used as a source yet.
  • You want to be able to prove where you stand compared to two competitors.
  • Someone at your company can read and sign off content.
  • You think in months, not days.
This is what we’d advise against

Without a viable website, your work starts in the wrong place

  • Your website carries no substance. Then we start with the website project, not here.
  • You expect a change within a few weeks.
  • You sell transactional mass-market business with short decisions.
  • No one at your company can sign off technical claims.

From experience

What sets B2B marketing for technical companies apart from other marketing

01

Your offering that needs explaining can’t take simplification

An offering that needs explaining loses the moment it gets simplified. Anyone who doesn’t understand your technology cuts exactly the sentences that bring in the order.

02

Weeks to months pass between first contact and inquiry

Weeks to months pass between first seeing you and an inquiry. A single campaign fizzles out, a lasting presence doesn’t.

03

Several roles decide on your order together

Leadership, marketing, sales, and IT sit at the same table and ask different questions. Your page has to answer all four.

04

Few customers with high order value instead of mass

At your order sizes, it’s not the number of contacts that counts, but whether the right ten companies know you when they invest.

17 / Frequently asked questions

What questions technical companies ask about AI visibility in ChatGPT

Your question isn’t listed?

Drop us a line. You’ll get an answer from one of the two founders, not from an inbox.

Ask a question
What is AI visibility?

AI visibility describes whether and how often a company is named and cited as a source in the answers of AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Claude. Unlike a position on Google, it is not a rank but a share: out of a hundred questions asked from your market, your name shows up in a certain number of the answers. It is measured with a fixed set of queries that are repeated in the exact same wording.

How does my company become visible in ChatGPT and AI searches?

In four steps. First, measure in which questions you are named today and in which you are not. Second, make your own website citable, meaning answer one question per page, put the answer up front, and back up claims with a number, a period, and a source. Third, anchor the same positioning outside your own website, in directories, comparison portals, and trade articles. Fourth, measure again every month in the same wording and derive the work list for the following month from the cited sources.

How does my company get recommended by ChatGPT and Copilot?

Recommended is whoever is described the same way in several sources. Answer engines check whether website, directory entries, profiles, and trade articles name the same category, the same target audience, and the same value. If these details match, a pattern emerges that the systems output as a recommendation. If they contradict each other or third-party sources are missing entirely, the mention does not happen, even with good positions in classic search.

Which GEO agency is the best?

There is no universally valid answer, because the measurement differs by market, language, and country. What can be checked is the approach. The seven criteria further up on this page can be applied to any offer: a baseline before the work, disclosed wording of the queries, a defined metric, repeated measurement, work on third-party sources, an honest statement about what cannot be guaranteed, and the handover of data and access at the end.

Which agency specializes in GEO and LLMO?

Specialization shows in three things: the agency measures continuously in several systems instead of once in one, it works on third-party sources and not only on your own website, and it distinguishes between GEO, AEO, and LLMO in its offer. Anyone looking for a GEO-LLMO agency or a GEO-SEO agency usually means exactly this combination: citability today, model knowledge for the coming years, and both in one hand together with classic SEO. LILOX works in this division for technical B2B companies in the DACH region and measures Austria, Germany, and Switzerland separately.

How do I measure my company’s visibility in AI-generated answers?

With a fixed set of queries, a fixed cadence, and a defined metric. We work with twelve real queries from your market, run them monthly on the same day in the leading AI systems, including ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Claude, and also Perplexity, and report each system separately. The metric is the citation_rate, meaning citations per retrieval, plus the share of voice per query. A one-time test is not enough, because the systems’ answers fluctuate from week to week.

How do I find out if ChatGPT recommends my company?

Through twelve real queries phrased the way your customers ask. We record whether you’re named, in what position, and from which source the mention comes, and compare that with two competitors you name. We present the result to you live in 30 minutes.

Figures from 3,971 AI answers in the report
What’s the difference between a Google ranking and visibility in AI answers?

A ranking is a position in a list your customer chooses from themselves. An AI answer names three to five providers in a paragraph and already makes the shortlist. Good Google positions help, but they don’t guarantee the mention, because answer systems also draw on outside sources.

How long does it take before something moves in the answers?

Technical points on your website often take effect within a few weeks. Work on outside sources takes longer, because articles, profiles, and directories first have to be read and processed. We think in months and show you the movement in the monthly report.

What is llms.txt and do we need it?

llms.txt is a text file in your website’s root directory. It shows answer systems, in short form, what you’re about and which pages are the solid sources. It doesn’t replace good page structure, but it makes finding your important content noticeably easier.

The free AI visibility check tells you whether your site has an llms.txt
Should we allow the crawlers of answer systems on our website?

If you want to be cited, you have to be allowed to be read. That’s why we check which access your site blocks today, and deliberately open it up to the crawlers of answer systems. Many sites block them out of an old setting no one ever actually decided on.

What does the visibility check cost?

The visibility check costs you nothing. It covers twelve real queries, comparison with two competitors you name, a technical assessment of citability, and three prioritized actions. Building the basis with an assessment per page and a topic plan runs between €3,500 and €9,900.

Can you guarantee that we’ll show up in ChatGPT?

No. The systems decide for themselves which sources they cite, and their answers fluctuate. We guarantee the method and the measurement. Every month you see, in the same wording, where you stand, what’s changed, and which sources the mentions come from.

Which systems get measured?

We measure ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Claude, and also Perplexity, because that’s where most of your customers’ research lands in the DACH region. If further systems become relevant for your market, Copilot for example, we add them to the same measurement and report them separately.

What is the difference between GEO, AEO, and classic SEO?

SEO aims at a position in the results list, GEO and AEO aim at the answer itself. AEO, answer engine optimization, works towards your page delivering the direct answer, for example in the featured snippet. GEO, generative engine optimization, works towards ChatGPT, Copilot, or Google AI citing your page as a source when they condense several sources into one answer. The technical groundwork is the same, the goal is not.

The full comparison as a table
What exactly does a GEO or AEO agency do?

It makes sure answer engines find your company, understand it, and cite it as a source. In practice that is four jobs: measuring which questions you are named in today and which you are not; making your own website citable, meaning answer first and evidence after; occupying third-party sources such as directories, comparison portals, and trade publications; and reporting every month, in the same wording, what has moved.

The levers in the GEO guide for B2B
Does AI visibility actually bring inquiries, or only visibility?

The two have to be kept apart, and we keep them apart in the report as well. A mention in an AI answer is a visibility number. Whether it turns into an inquiry shows up in the source attached to each inquiry in your CRM. We don’t promise inquiries out of ChatGPT. We show you every month where you are named and how much of it arrives at the bottom of the funnel.

Does AI visibility work for Austria and Switzerland too?

Yes, and it has to be measured separately. Answer engines name different providers depending on language, location, and phrasing, so a result for Germany says little about Austria or Switzerland. That is why we measure per country, with their own questions and their own competitors. LILOX has offices in Söll in Tyrol and in Wildhaus in eastern Switzerland and works in all three markets.

Is optimizing our own website enough, or do we need entries on third-party sites?

Your own website is the groundwork, but it rarely suffices on its own. Answer engines prefer to back their statements with sources that don’t belong to the provider itself: provider directories, comparison portals, trade media, and industry listings.
